Multi-factor authentication

Multi-factor authentication is a secure way to verify you and your account activity.

A verification will be sent to you as a secure code via SMS to your mobile phone, or if you use Macquarie Authenticator, you have the option to approve via an actionable push notification in the Macquarie Authenticator app.

Please note: The delivery of SMS notifications to international numbers is not guaranteed. We recommend using an Australian mobile number.

Yes, you’ll need to have multi-factor authentication in place to use both online and mobile banking with Macquarie.

Step 1: Register for multi-factor authentication

The first time you log into Macquarie Online Banking, you’ll be prompted to register for multi-factor authentication. If you're a new client, your welcome email will contain a link for first-time registration that skips some of the steps below.

If you’re presented with a registration page:

1. Enter your mobile number
2. Select Send code
3. Enter the SMS secure code that has been sent to your mobile
4. Select Confirm
5. Choose three secret questions and enter the answers to them
6. Select Continue.

If you’re not presented with a registration page:

1. On macquarie.com.au, select Log in
2. Select Macquarie Online
3. Select New to Macquarie?
4. Follow the registration page process described above

Step 2: Download the Macquarie Authenticator app

To complete your setup, go to your device’s app store you need to download the Macquarie Authenticator app for free.

Once you’ve downloaded and opened Macquarie Authenticator, follow the on-screen prompts to link your account details and start using your account on Macquarie Online Banking and the Macquarie Mobile Banking app.

You may not be able to authorise a transaction or activity using multi-factor authentication if:

• you don’t have access or haven’t registered for the Macquarie Authenticator app
• you can’t access the internet or have limited mobile reception
• you haven’t received the SMS safe code within 20 seconds of requesting it
• you're not using an Australian mobile number.
